City Nature Challenge 2024: Accomack & Northampton Counties's Journal

Hi everyone,

The annual City Nature Challenge is getting ready to start TOMORROW and we need your help! Between Friday, April 26 and Monday, April 29, we need you to help us find as many species as possible using iNaturalist. All iNaturalist observations from Northampton & Accomack Counties will automatically be counted towards the Challenge (this includes surrounding water).

I’ve tagged you in this post because you are a top observer in the area. It is top iNat observers like you that will really help push us ahead in number of observations made and species recorded in Virginia.

The City Nature Challenge is an international effort for people to find and document what lives in communities across the globe. There are over 650 locations participating this year so it will be great to see what everyone finds!

Help us find more wildlife than last year's City Nature Challenge on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. All iNat observations made in Northampton & Accomack county automatically count in the Challenge.

We're almost half-way through the challenge and observations are rolling in. Here's how many MORE we need to reach our goal and top last year's record. Will you spread the word and help us?
• 40% of our goal accomplished: 358 more wildlife observations needed
• 53% of our goal accomplished: 150 more species needed
• 45% of our goal accomplished: 45 more people making observations needed

I hope you'll get outside this evening through Monday and snap photos in iNat of that ant on the sidewalk (it counts!) or that dandelion in your yard (it counts!) or the fly on your vehicle (it counts!). The more wild plants and animals you observe, the better!
